The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of accurate information dissemination and language translation in regional and international contexts. COVID-19 variants such as SARS-CoV-2 Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) in particular have raised a lot of concerns and uncertainties about the efficacy of current vaccines and prevention strategies. The role of media is crucial in providing timely and reliable information, as well as in translating scientific data into understandable language for the public.

The media plays a critical role in providing timely and reliable information, as well as translating scientific data into understandable language for the public. In this context, this proposal aims to analyze the policy of translation of two distinct COVID-19 variants, SARS-CoV-2 Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) and SARS-CoV-2, in Tasnim news agency. Tasnim news agency is a major news outlet in Iran, and its COVID-19 coverage has been widely read and debated by audiences across the country. This study will utilize Fairclough's critical discourse analysis to examine the language and discourse of the translations and to identify any power relations and social practices that may be embedded in the translation policy.
