چکیده

In this study, we attempt to analyze the difference between the frequency of compliments and how the addressee responds to the compliment in ten Persian and ten American films, along with ten episodes of a Persian TV show and five American animations. Manes and Wolfson's (1981) classification of different compliment topics is used most among different nations. Compliment responses are categorized based on Pomerantz's (1987) classification of compliment responses. Based on Campbell's (2006) belief in Iran, most speech is connotative. Regarding the existence of Taarof in Iranian culture, we assume that the frequency of compliments is most likely higher in Persian data.
