This research aims to address this gap by employing mythological and archetypal theories to analyze Kafka’s characters and narrative structure in The Metamorphosis. By applying Jungian concepts of archetypes and Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, this study will explore how these frameworks reveal underlying symbolic patterns and themes in Kafka’s novella.
The study of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis through a mythological and archetypal lens is necessary due to the limitations of existing psychological and existential interpretations. While previous research has offered valuable insights into Kafka’s work, it often falls short in addressing the novel's symbolic and universal dimensions. This research operates on several key assumptions regarding the mythological and archetypal interpretation of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis. The researcher has gone into lengthy discussions as sketched in the following paragraphs to explain these assumptions which will guide the analysis and help to shape the conclusions drawn from the study.
