چکیده
Mitral valve prolapses (MVP) is a systolic disorder characterized by protrusion of the mitral valve leaflets into the left atrium and is one of the most common cardiac abnormalities in young women. The effects of aerobic and breathing exercises on these patients have not been studied previously. This study aims to investigate the effect of aerobic and breathing exercises on anxiety and quality of life in women with mitral valve prolapse. Thirty young women with moderate mitral regurgitation (MR) as determined by echocardiography (grades 2 and 3) were divided into two groups: an exercise group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The exercise group participated in a 12-week aerobic and breathing exercise program, which was performed three times a week for 45-60 minutes. Health-related quality of life was assessed using the SF-36 questionnaire, while anxiety levels were measured using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). The data were analyzed using paired t-tests and ANCOVA, taking into account the baseline values with SPSS 23. At the end of the study, 12 participants in the training group and 13 in the control group had terminated the study. The results showed that after 12 weeks of aerobic training, the training group showed a significant reduction in anxiety scores (p=0.005) compared to the control group. In addition, the exercise group showed significant improvements in quality of life (p=0.002) and their dimensions of physical and general health compared to the control group. Overall, this study emphasizes the positive effects of aerobic and breathing exercises on improving quality of life and reducing anxiety in women with mitral valve prolapse. Therefore, the implementation of this exercise program is recommended for this patient group.
