چکیده
|
The study investigated the behavior of walls reinforced by screw and grouted nails in both
sandy and clayey soils, along with examining the interaction between screw nails and the surrounding soil.
Results indicated that the cylindrical mechanism of screw nails diminishes the influence of soil-shaft interaction on pullout resistance. Abaqus/Standard software faces difficulty in resolving slope stability issues
when employing the penalty method to mimic screw nail-soil interface behavior. Modeling the interaction
of screw nails and surrounding soil as an embedded region within the soil in Abaqus/Standard software is
suggested. Passive stresses acting on the soil behind screw plates enhanced the horizontal stress behind the
plates. Vertical and horizontal displacements of walls reinforced with screw nails were smaller than those
of grout-nailed walls in sandy soils. Additionally, the effectiveness of screw nails in controlling horizontal
displacement of reinforced walls increased with higher surcharge loads. However, there was no significant
difference observed in associated values in clayey soils. For optimal effectiveness, it is advisable to use
screw nails in soils with smaller Rankine zones (higher internal friction angle values) or with a minimum
number of screw plates within the Rankine zone.
