This thesis explores the interplay of Gothic and sublime elements in Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, emphasizing their role in shaping the narrative's emotional depth and thematic complexity. It argues that the Gothic features, such as the bleak setting, supernatural occurrences, and themes of revenge and transgression, create a dark and intense emotional landscape. These elements are intricately woven with the sublime, which is represented by the wild and untamed moors, embodying awe and terror while mirroring the characters' inner turmoil. The study focuses on how these literary devices reflect broader themes, such as the duality of love and hate, and the tensions between nature and civilization, ultimately enhancing the novel’s exploration of human emotions and relationships. This research aims to fill a gap in scholarly discourse by analyzing the relationship between the Gothic and the sublime in Wuthering Heights, particularly their impact on character development and thematic resonance. Through qualitative textual analysis, it examines how Brontë employs these elements to evoke profound emotional responses, create a sense of isolation, and amplify the intensity of key relationships, especially between Heathcliff and Catherine. The study's interdisciplinary approach integrates psychological and ecocritical perspectives, offering fresh insights into the novel’s enduring significance and its commentary on human emotion, nature, and societal constraints.
