This study aims to investigate the reasons and effects of sport career termination of professional athletes in Iran. This is a descriptive study in which 51 retired athletes had participated. Research data were gathered by sport termination reasons and problems’ questionnaire and face and content validity of these questionnaires were confirmed by university experts and their reliability with Cronbach alpha in a pilot study. Repeated measurements, independent t-test, correlated t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis. Results showed that from subjects’ point of view, most athletes have retired for non-sport reasons (P<0.05). Priority of sport career termination problems was different and occupational problems were in first priority (P<0.05). Amount of received and expected support of subjects from various sources was different. There was significant difference between presented services during sport termination career with problems of terminating sport career (P<0.05). There was also significant correlation between sport termination with sport termination problems, presented services and received supports in termination period (P<0.05). It is concluded that most athletes terminated their sport career because of non-sport causes and their major problems in sport termination period include problems related to new job. Levels of given services to athletes is low and dealing with problems of these human capitals by authorities is necessary
