A comparative study of the poetry of Abu Al-Qasim Al-Shabbi and John Keats from Romantic perspective reveals fascinating similarities, despite their differing cultural backgrounds and historical contexts in which they produced poetry. John Keats was an English Romantic poet known for his rich imagery, love of Nature, individual emotions, the contemplation of mortality, the ephemeral nature of beauty, the cultural shifts of his time, and the question of industrialization of Britain. Using elements of the Tunisian landscape, Al-Shabbi also draws upon natural imagery to express his feelings of longing, beauty, celebration of Nature, personal and collective identity, freedom, self-expression, becoming the voice for the oppressed, mortality, struggle for a lasting legacy, the social and political issues of his time, the struggles for independence, the sense of Arab individualism, and cultural identity in the Arab world. This comparative study between Keats and Al-Shabbi highlights the universal nature of Romantic ideals and the ways in which they are manifested in diverse cultural contexts.
