Abstract: In Search of Lost Time (À la Recherché du Temps Perdu) , the seven-volume masterpiece of Marcel Proust, who is a famous twentieth century French writer, is generally acknowledged as a modern classic and one of the best longest novels of all times. "In Search of Lost Time is a fictional autobiography by a man whose life almost mirrors that of Marcel Proust" (Alexander 1). The narrator spends most of his life in Paris, although at some points he travels to other places with either his grandmother or his mother. He has a keen eye for details of his surroundings. Nature and generally environment play an active role in Proust's novel. This study will focus on the Eco-critical issues in the second volume of In Search of Lost Time, In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower (also translated as Within a Budding Grove), analyzing "the relationship between literature and physical environment" (Glotfelty xviii), and the significance of nature in Proust's greatest literary work.
