Abstract Paulo Coelho is a well-known Brazilian author. His bestseller novel The Alchemist was published in 1988 and sold over sixty-five million books worldwide and was translated into sixty languages. The Alchemist recounts the journey of a shepherd boy who embarks on a journey because of his recurrent dreams. The other book in this study is Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. The book is an international bestseller, translated into over thirty languages, and sold over 12 million copies worldwide. Self-discovery can take many forms. Eat, Pray, Love tells the story of Elizabeth Gilbert, a married woman. Unlike her seemingly successful life, she has a turbulent inner self. As a cure, she starts her journey. The present thesis aims to first analyze the main characters of the two novels and the existing conflicts in their lives. So, the significant conflicts of the leading characters of The Alchemist and Eat, Pray, Love will be demonstrated. Of course, the conflicts in each character will be of a different kind. The writer of this thesis will show the resolution of their problems using Archetypes, particularly the archetype of the hero’s journey, it will be argued that the two characters share the same values.
