The Catcher in the Rye penned by J. D. Salinger is a story of crises of a young person with the society. Holden Caulfield, as the main character of the best-seller novel as the social critique of the realities, became a hero to all the readers, has been deeply identified with the plethora of struggles and his precarious character. In this study, the researcher will intend to analyze Holden’s complicated character development as well as his internal conflict with the world through adolescence. Heading this aim, the study will explain how Salinger challenges society’s cultural codes and disciplinary power through Holden’s character developmental crises of an individual who breaks the established norms of the society and judges life and people according to his moral understanding but reacts as an adolescent.
